Jennifer
The money was just plain gone. Working 30 hours
per week for sub-minimum wage left Jennifer with no reliable way to
feed and care for her three growing children, ages 9, 8 and 6. It
wasn't a matter of addictions dragging Jennifer down into a financial
abyss. Instead, it was the economic reality that rent could not be
paid, day care costs were not in her tiny budget, and long overdue
child support payments were not to be relied on.
She had nothing and no hope of gaining stability.
Her story is like that of so many other mothers who come to GSRM.
Jennifer was born and raised in the Bay City area.
She is a hard-working, single mom dedicated to doing whatever she
can to provide for her children. When the money ran out, she was homeless.
This scenario is frequently occurring in Bay County. Families struggle
to make ends meet, move in with other family or friends to try to
get by, and eventually find themselves without a place to stay.
But there is hope for these families! A GSRM staff
member prompted Jennifer to
visit the mission. Within 60 days of having first walked through the
doors of Good Samaritan, Jennifer found solutions and assistance to
move back into an apartment and to have the financial means to keep
it.
She found a job that would provide the needed income
to care for her family. She returned to Pizza Hut, where she had worked
as a waitress 3 years prior. After just two months 2 months of hard
work, Jennifer was promoted to an assistant manager position! She
now earns enough to provide for her family, so she has returned her
rent assistance voucher so another family in need can have their own
place to stay.
“I can’t believe how much my life has
changed since I came to GSRM,” Jennifer says. “To all
of the staff and volunteers and donors who invested time and donations
into caring for my little family, I just want to say a huge thank
you. You have no idea how much you have touched our lives.”
Your support of GSRM truly delivers a powerful impact
for families with nowhere else to turn. Thank you for playing such
a vital role in the ministry of GSRM. And the next time
you visit a Pizza Hut in the Saginaw area, ask for Jennifer. She’ll
be the one with the huge smile on her face.
